Inbound FFL Transfer FAQs

What is an "Inbound FFL Transfer"?

Since firearms can't be shipped directly to your home, all online firearm purchases must ship to one of your local Federal Firearm Licensee (FFL) Dealers like K3 Armory. Once they have received it, you will visit their location to complete the necessary paperwork and background checks. Then the firearm “transferred” to you via an FFL Transfer.

Who can request a transfer?

Federal law requires that you can only arrange a transfer for yourself. You may NOT arrange a transfer for someone else. If someone else is having a firearm transferred, they must contact us to initiate the transfer themselves.

• For handguns, pistols and lower receivers:
We only provide our transfer services to buyers that are at least 21 years old AND legal Virginia residents (or active duty military personnel that are PCS to a base or station in Virginia).

• For long guns, rifles and shotguns:
We only provide our transfer services to buyers that are at least 18 years old. Buyers may be Virginia residents OR out-of-state residents.

What Items Can I Have Shipped to you for Transfer?

We offer transfer services for Title I firearms only (ordinary rifles, pistols, revolvers, shotguns, receivers, etc - NOT fully automatic or NFA items). We only accept incoming shipments from current FFL Dealers. We do not allow non-licensees (those without an FFL License such as a private party individual) to ship firearms to us for transfer.

We reserve the right to refuse acceptance of any transfer firearm, in accordance with any Federal, State and Local laws. We will never hesitate to refuse a transfer or report a suspected criminal activity to the proper law enforcement agencies. We do not inspect or test fire any firearms that are being transferred. Therefore, we reserve the right to refuse and/or return any firearms at the buyer/sellers expense that were misrepresented by the seller.

How do I Schedule an Appointment to Pickup my Order?

FFL Transfers are by appointment only. Please do not call or email us for an appointment time. ONCE YOU ARE INSTRUCTED TO DO SO, you can visit our online scheduling page to book your FFL Transfer appointment.

Appointments take place at our home office in Chesterfield, VA. We are located near Hwy 360/Hull Street and Hwy 288. They are booked in 30 min time slots. Please arrive on time.

What Should I Expect During my Appointment?

Once you arrive at K3 Armory for your appointment time, we will begin the transfer process. The firearm will be “transferred” to you via an FFL Transfer. A transfer occurs by you filling out an ATF Form 4473 and satisfying the background check requirements.

Form 4473 requires information about the identity of the buyer and it requires answers to a series of questions to ensure that you are not a prohibited person. Upon completing the Form 4473, K3 Armory will conduct a federal background and criminal history check on you through the ATF's National Instant Criminal Check System (NICS). Anyone buying a gun online or locally must pass a NICS check before an FFL Dealer can transfer possession of the firearm to them.

Due to Federal regulations, guns are not returnable. Please inspect your gun thoroughly before completing the transfer. If the gun received by K3 Armory is incorrect or damaged in shipment, do not take possession of it. Contact your Seller immediately to have the problem resolved. After transfer, any warranty or repair work must be coordinated directly with the gun manufacturer.

Is a Background Check Required?

Yes, of course! All firearm purchases require a federally mandated background check to be completed by the FFL Dealer at the time the firearm is picked up.

Can I Pass A Background Check?

Refer to the ATF's list of Prohibited Persons to confirm you are eligible to purchase and/or possess a firearm. Virginia residents can take the Virginia State Police Firearms Purchase Eligibility Test to find if they meet the requirements to purchase/possess a firearm in Virginia.

Residents of other States should consult their specific State/Local laws before making your purchase or scheduling a transfer appointment.
